Lens effect of foreshortening makes distances appear closer, and steep slopes appear shallow. This photo was shot from the 10,000 foot level of our High Camp, looking up to 14,000 foot summit -- 4,000 feet more to climb. Other photos from this trip and guidebooks from different angles show slopes to be far steeper than they appear here.
